Guitar Banjo Mandolin Lessons

riffs licks tricks

I offer lessons on 5-string banjo (3-finger), finger-style/flat-pick guitar (acoustic/electric), and mandolin. I have been teaching in Connecticut (Fairfield County/New Haven County) for more than 25 years.

Melodic Concepts
I have developed a technique for teaching improvisation I call 'melodic concepts'.

It's a system that combines the study of phrasing with a detailed exploration of your instrument's fretboard. You will learn the difference between pure melodic playing and riffing. This system can be applied to any style of music or instrument. It has proven to be particularly effective for guitar players looking to break out of the box fingerboard pattern.

We can learn to read music, play by ear, learn theory, or study the style of a specific musician. But whatever we do, my goal is to help you find your own 'voice' on the instrument.

For beginners I recommend half-hour sessions; an hour for more advanced players. I personalize your course material so you can accomplish what you set out to do and have fun in the process. I'll show you about music--and musicianship--and how to unlock the secrets contained in your instrument.
